Do you want to encourage someone who’s keen on a career in project management?  What better way to do so than to sponsor them to attend an event where project professionals from multiple industries get together?
Here at Psoda we’re passionate about project management. So, when we were approached by the New Zealand Project Management Institute to sponsor a student at its annual conference last year, we didn’t hesitate.
We’re keen to see our profession continue to grow and be relevant in an ever changing world. Sponsoring a student to attend the NZPMI Conference was a way to actively show the next generation of project professionals that we want to encourage and develop them.
Therefore, we were delighted to help Courtney Fraser- a Bachelor of Applied Management student, majoring in project management, at Ara Institute of Canterbury – attend last year’s conference.

In her own words, here’s what Courtney gained from attending the event:

“My passion to become a project manager was solidified when I was given the opportunity to attend the 2017 PMI Conference in Christchurch as a sponsored student by Psoda. Rhona and Bruce Aylward at Psoda introduced me to people at the conference, and provided support and guidance while I was there. The conference was amazing and I was completely blown away by all the interesting and passionate people I met, as well as the engaging presentations. I was also lucky enough to be sponsored to attend the New Zealand Project Management Awards dinner, which was a truly inspiring and magical evening! Before the conference, I was interested in a career as a project manager and afterwards, I was certain it was my path. I would highly recommend any aspiring student to attend the PMI conference as the experience was invaluable and unforgettable.”
The benefit we, as an organisation, gained from sponsoring Courtney was being able to work with a passionate and dedicated young woman and to help her choose project management as her career.
I hope this account of what being sponsored to attend a leading project management conference has given Courtney, will inspire businesses to also sponsor a student to attend such an event . And if you’re a student, I hope this encourages you to apply for such a sponsorship.
