Bruce is Chief Everything Officer at Psoda and an award winning ICT leader. After starting life as a rocket scientist he created Psoda and has been taking the product to the world for over 10 years.
Recently I wrote a piece for CIO New Zealand on why artificial intelligence in business tools is not something to be feared – despite the grim picture of AI painted by Hollywood!
We have already built some AI into Psoda. It works in the background and may not be visible to users, but does help make our tools be more responsive and adaptive to our users’ needs. After all, the benefit of AI is that it lends tools the ability to learn and adapt from their users.
So why should we not fear AI?
Much of the application of artificial intelligence in business today is highly unlikely to ever lead to the development of self-aware or sentient computers.
While something like Siri may come across as being very intelligent and even witty, in reality she (or rather, it) is little more than algorithms – tools like this are not self-aware, and will not become sentient automatically.
They are just examples of machine learning where computers use algorithms to learn from and make predictions on data.
As we develop Psoda further, we plan to add more AI into our tools to help project managers in even more and better ways.
